    Re: OverseaTV (TV ARABIYA)

Hey leo, OverseaTV not only advertised with several German Consulates (including Chicago) but also had advertising in the US German magazine 'German Life'. This company was out in the open!

When it comes to the internet content some of the legal and illegal stuff is in a grey area. Also hard to prosecute if your not in the same country as the provider.

    Re: OverseaTV (TV ARABIYA)

here are links to letters we recieved from ZDF and PRO7 with respect to the rights of OverseasTV... This is the last time we are commenting on the rights issue... If you are an individual that is willing to support illegal business... Then you should never complain about getting ripped off... If you wish to support these companies that is your right... However, in the longer run you only end up hurting your pocket... These companies come and go and consumers are the ones getting hurt...

    Re: OverseaTV (TV ARABIYA)

the best way protect one self is to commit to smaller payments.

someone paying (like myself) paying for one year. mein schuld.

my mistake. pay for sixmonths or less. the value of the program

is almost priceless. the christmas shows and the almost daily movies.

there is no choice but we have a provider that is there. use it or lose it.

was overseatv a scam. no idea. was is a business that did not have enough customers.

    use it or lose it

    Re: OverseaTV (TV ARABIYA)

I was told that overseatv was illegal, really sucks. With vutv(or Nextv) there will be less channels 6-8 i think, but also only $19.95 instead of $29.95 that i was paying the whole time. So to the people with the Wave 300, hats of to you my Sunniwell Box won't work for Nextv.  You are really the lucky ones. No happy newyear for me.

    Re: OverseaTV (TV ARABIYA)

    Dear Valued Customers

If you currently own a Wave 300 box I will be posting steps   you need to do to get your box working with the Nextv Service.

    1. You need to visit www.vutv.tv and download a firm ware upgrade called upgrade.tar.gz

    2. you need to put that file on a BLANK usb key

    3. attach the usb key to the back of your Set Top Box

    4. unplug the power from the Set Up Box

    5. hold the stand by button on the front of the Set Up Box down and replug the Set Top Box in while holding the stand by button and wait for 10 seconds exactly then release the button

6.Download should strat leave it on for 5 mins

    7. Unplug and replug the  Set Up Box after 5 mins and you should see the nextv logo on

    8. If that does not work you need try using another USB key

    Good luck

    Re: OverseaTV (TV ARABIYA)

I found out about OverseaTV through the German-Texan Heritage Society in Austin, Texas.  There were professionally printed brochures on display there in the area where they keep references to all their German-language resources.  It all depends on who you talk to about whether OverseaTV was legal or illegal.   If all I can get to replace what OverseaTV had.  is ProSieben, DW, and another news station, I'll just forget the whole thing and do without.  Manchmal, die neue Technologie lutscht!

Hallo, Mr. VuTv.  I have a CMS500 set top box.  What do those of us with the CMS500 need to do to get our GermanTV back?  Is there any remedy or must we get a new box?

    Re: OverseaTV (TV ARABIYA)

I still dont know whats going on here, first i hear that oversea tv was bought out by vuvu.tv now it seems to me that vuvu.tv is trying to "steal" oversea tv customers for a profit even though they are not offering the same content.

Where is oversea tv and who Merged or purchased with them??? can you answer that for me please.  thank you  Happy new year

    Re: OverseaTV (TV ARABIYA)

I was very excited when I found OverseaTV in January 2006 and I will be forever grateful to them allowing me to watch the entire soccer world cup last year live (I live in Chicago). I always felt however that at some point I may need to find a new provider or set up one of the new PAL slingboxes with my family in Germany.

When OverseaTV ceased to exist and after a little searching I found Shift TV. I am not sure whether it is the same company some of you referred to here on this site. My shift TV is owned by Netlantic located near Munich, Germany. It is an online VCR that offers 19 channels (including ARD and ZDF). I signed up for three months and so far I like it even better than OverseaTV. With OverseaTV since it was live I could only watch late at night due to the time difference and soon after I had signed up with them and they switched to a new streaming system I could not record anything anymore on my computer. With Shift TV I can record any show, any time. Its not live but a couple of hours later you either stream it or download the file. I can now tape shows for my German friends and give them a CD with the latest "Sendung mit der Maus" for their kids for instance. It works like charm and I love it.

Since somebody mentioned the Sylvester show that was missed. Here is what I did last night. I taped the entire 4 hour Sylvester show on Pro7 earlier in the day and took it to the party we were invited. There were lots of Germans there. I synchronized the show so that is was exactly 7 hours shifted. Close to midnight we could all even watch the count down of that show. It was great. After that we watched "Dinner for One" which I had also taped during the day.

If you want to try it, they offer a free demo. You can tape up two 2 hours and after the recording is finished you can stream it. Since the server is in Germany you may not get the best bandwidth at times. However when you sign up for three months (9.99 Euros/month) you can both stream and download from their site. Alternative you can subscribe for a full year for just 4.95 Euros/month. As a subscriber you have 10 hours to tape. Works very well. The only downside for non German nationals is that you will need to type in information taken from your German "Personalausweis" or passport. They use this info to confirm that you are over 18. I taped a few dozen shows over Christmas and had zero problems with them. Obviously you need to be a bit computer savvy. I have hooked up my computer to my flat screen and is very close to actual television.

One word of caution. As many of these services they too exist in a grey zone. They used to have RTL but the RTL group sued them and they had to stop feeding RTL into their system. The battle with RTL is still ongoing (has been for more than a year). So we may loose this system again in the future. For now I am very happy and hoping for the best.

Happy New Year to everybody and enjoy Shift TV.
