We have a new provider in our association, and for what ever reason, some folks experience a strange outage. It occurs on both versions of the channel which are supposed to be highdef. For example, a supplier might have channel 9 and channel 425 associated with their network.
When either is selected via the set top box (7100 by Cisco) the channel plays normally for about 7 seconds and then freezes. If any other channel is selected and then the failing channel is reselected the problem recurs.
If the channel is recorded on their servers and the guide is moved back in time the previous airing of the content is completely viewable!
The provider is telling us this is related to a bad "PON" card in the splitter. I have a difficult time believing this because after all a splitter should not know much about video packets right? Like why would a splitter know what channel we were watching?
All the best
